Five Score in Double Figures in Win Over Stetson

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State men's basketball team picked up a 77-53 victory over Stetson Saturday night, as five Flashes scored in double figures inside the M.A.C. Center.
Kent State improved to 6-1 on the season and remains undefeated at home (4-0).
Sophomore Anthony Roberts led the way with a game-high 17-points shooting 7-of-11 from the floor and 2-of-4 from downtown. Roberts also grabbed four rebounds and dished out two assists. Senior Philip Whittington had a breakout game with a season-high 16 points and nine boards, while senior Troy Simons added 12 points, five rebounds, and two assists.
Senior Antonio Williams added 11 points, four rebounds, and a game-high five assists, while junior Danny Pippen rounded out the double-digit scoring with 10 points. Pippen also blocked three shots, giving him 17 total on the season.
As a team, Kent State shot a season-best 47.6 percent (30-of-63) from the floor and hit seven three-pointers (28 percent). Defensively, the Flashes held the Hatters to 32.8 percent (20-of-61) and only 4-of-18 (22.2 percent) from beyond the arc. Kent State slightly out-rebounded Stetson, 37-36 while forcing 17 takeaways.
Despite back-to-back turnovers by the Flashes to start the second half, a jump shot by Whittington ignited a 12-2 run by Kent State as the Flashes took a 12-point lead (45-33) with 16 minutes remaining to play. A jumper by CJ Williamson pushed the margin to 20 points, where it stayed for the remainder of the game.
Stetson saw two players finish with double-figure scoring as Jones led the Hatters with 15 points and Diawara added 14 points.
Kent State will take on Detroit Mercy on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at the M.A.C. Center. Tip time between the Flashes and Titans is set for 7 p.m.
