Wrestling Heads to Vegas for Cliff Keen Invite

KENT, OHIO- The Golden Flashes hit the mat again this weekend traveling out west to take part in the annual Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The 32-team tournament will be held over two days, Friday and Saturday at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The Cliff Keen Invitational is considered one of the best mid-season tournaments that college wrestling has to offer as over 100 ranked wrestlers will be competing in their respective weight brackets. Amongst that group is Tim Rooney who checked in at #20 at 133 pounds in the latest InterMat rankings.
As of Thursday, 32 teams are expected to participate in this year's tournament including more than a dozen top-25 squads in this week's National Wrestling Coaches Association Division I Coaches Poll. Teams expected to participate include Binghamton, Cal Poly, Clarion, Cal State Bakersfield, The Citadel, #17 Cornell, Edinboro, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Harvard, Hofstra, #11 Iowa State, Kent State, #22 Michigan, #15 Minnesota, Nebraska Kearney, #2 Nebraska, #14 Northwestern, #6 North Carolina State, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, #16 Northern Iowa, #7 Ohio State, Oklahoma, #23 Purdue, Sacred Heart, South Dakota State, Utah Valley, #24 Virginia and Wyoming.
Kent State will bring the following 10-man lineup with them to Vegas: 125: Earl Blake, 133: Tim Rooney, 141: Cory Simpson, 149: Kody Komara, 157: Brady Chrisman, 165: Kade Byland, 174: Andrew McNally, 184: Tyler Bates, 197: Colin McCracken and Heavyweight: Spencer Berthold.
FloWrestling will have live video (for a fee) as well as live stats for the entire weekend tournament. Friday's schedule starts at 10 a.m. eastern with the weigh-ins followed by the start of the tournament at noon eastern. Friday will consist of the opening round through the quarterfinals of each of the 10 brackets as well as the opening round of the consolation tournament. Saturday will crown the respective champions as well as play out the rest of the consolation bracket. Links to the live video and stats will be available on the wrestling schedule page.
Following the tournament, Kent State will be back in action at the Cleveland State Open on Saturday, December 14th. The open will feature the majority of the Kent State wrestlers and the action begins at 9:00 a.m. on the 14th.
