Flashes Fall to NIU in MAC Opener

DeKalb, Ill. – The Kent State gymnastics team finished in third place at the NIU Quad on Friday posting a season-high beam score of 48.900 and an overall score of 192.075.
Four Flashes placed in the top 10 on beam with scores of 9.750 or higher. Senior Kennedy Plude recorded a season-high 9.825 to tie for third, while junior Sarah Lippowitsch tied a career-high and finished tied for sixth place along with sophomore Abby Fletcher. Freshman Cami Klein scored a season-high 9.750 to finish in 10th place.
Senior Dara Williams grabbed her third individual title this season with a score of 9.825 on bars, while junior Jade Brown tied for third place with a 9.775. Junior Gabby Williams tied for fifth place with career-high score of 9.750.
"I am very disappointed that we did not come out with the emotion and intensity we needed to be successful today," said Head Coach Brice Biggin. "We lacked some of that in practice this week, and it came back to haunt us today. We need to put a better overall effort into practice this week and move on."
The Golden Flashes posted a 48.475 on vault, 48.125 on bars and 46.575 on floor.
Northern Illinois won the meet with an overall team score of 194.500, while Lindenwood came in second place with a score of 194.350. Seattle Pacific finished in fourth place with a score of 190.625. Lindenwood's Courtney Mitchell won the all-around competition with a score of 39.225.
The Flashes are back in action on Sunday, February 10 when they take on Central Michigan in the Beauty and the Beast meet.
