Turnovers Costly in Loss to Bulls
2/22/2019 10:35:00 PM | Men's Basketball
BUFFALO, NY- The 25th-ranked Buffalo Bulls used a perfectly timed 10-0 run in the final minute of the first half to turn Kent State's lead into an eight point deficit at the intermission and then outscored KSU 45-30 in the second period to pull away in an 80-57 win before 6,655 at Alumni Arena.
Up until the final 60 seconds of the first 20 minutes, the Golden Flashes (19-8; 8-6) matched the Bulls' intensity – especially on the defensive end. But 11 turnovers led to UB (24-3; 12-2) buckets and Nick Perkins banked a three off the glass as the horn sounded. Jaylin Walker had 10 points in the first half for the Flashes.
The Bulls' offense roared to life in the second half, pulling away to a big lead they would not relinquish. Three Flashes recorded double-digit scoring on the night. Antonio Williams notched 17 points and five rebounds. Anthony Roberts struck for 15 – including a personal 5-0 run of his own in the first half to briefly give KSU the lead. And Walker added 12 for the Golden Flashes.
Turnovers were a major issue for the Flashes, who committed a season-high 23 for the game. The Flashes also scuffled from deep, managing just two threes in 13 tries. KSU is just 9-45 (20%) from distance over the last three games.
Kent State will return home for a Tuesday match-up with Ohio. The Bobcats stunned first-place Bowling Green in overtime on Friday night in Athens. Tip time from the MAC Center is 7 p.m.
