Former Kent State quarterback Julian Edelman became the first former Mid-American Conference student-athlete to be named Super Bowl MVP on Sunday. Edelman was also just the seventh wide receiver to earn MVP honors.
During the New England Patriots 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams, Edelman made 10 catches for 141 yards, eight of which went for first downs.
A seventh round draft pick for the Patriots in 2009, Edelman has won three Super Bowl rings with the Patriots and has been a part of five AFC championship teams. After another stellar playoff run, he ranks second in both NFL postseason career receptions (115) and receiving yards (1,412).
A member of Kent State's Varsity "K" Athletics Hall of Fame, Edelman's 3,190 yards of total offense as a senior (2008) remains a Kent State record. He ranks sixth in career passing yards at Kent State and eighth in career rushing yards.
Throughout his 10 seasons of practice and workouts with the Patriots, Edelman has proudly worn his old yellow Kent State T-shirt.
