Kent State to Play at ULM in CIT First Round

KENT, Ohio- Kent State will be making its 17th postseason appearance in 21 years, as the men's basketball team has accepted a bid to the 2019 CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT). The Golden Flashes will play a first-round game at the University of Louisiana Monroe on Thursday, March 21 at 8 p.m. in Monroe, La.
The Flashes were the No. 4 seed in last week's Mid-American Conference Tournament and lost, 89-81, to Central Michigan in the quarterfinals.
Kent State will make its fifth appearance in the CIT. The Flashes advanced to the quarterfinals in 2015 by winning on the road at Middle Tennessee State and Texas A&M- Corpus Christi before falling to Northern Arizona, 74-73 in overtime.
Kent State is 3-4 all-time in CIT games. Head coach Rob Senderoff recorded his first career postseason win by leading the Flashes to a 75-73 win over Fairfield in the first round of the 2013 CIT.
The Warhawks (18-15, 9-9) finished tied for sixth in the final Sun Belt standings and advanced to the conference tournament quarterfinals as the No. 7 seed fell to Georgia Southern, 81-67. ULM was terrific at home during the regular season, posting a 13-2 record at the Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
ABOUT THE CIT
In its 11th year, the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament is was created to provide more teams the opportunity to compete in the postseason basketball. The 26-team field consists of programs from non-Power 5 conferences. The tournament begins today, March 18, before culminating in a championship game on April 4. All games are played at on-campus sites.
