KENT, Ohio – The Kent State softball team (13-18, 3-2 MAC) split a midweek Mid-American Conference doubleheader with Ohio (25-12, 6-2 MAC) at the Diamond at Dix on Tuesday afternoon. The Flashes won a pitcher's duel game one 2-1 and fell in the nightcap 10-2.
Game 1: Kent State 2, Ohio 1
Despite Ohio scoring first with a solo home run in the second, Kent State answered in the bottom half of the frame to tie the game. Brenna Brownfield doubled and Hunter Brancifort doubled in pinch runner Olivia Sborlini to even the score at one.
Redshirt freshman pitcher Andrea Scali worked around some traffic on the bases and the offense gave her the lead in the fourth inning. Brenna Brownfield crushed a solo home run to left center and scored the go-ahead run.
Scali was able to post three more zeros to aid Kent State to the victory and ended the game with a groundout with two runners on. The freshman hurler moved to 9-6 this year and went seven innings allowing seven hits while striking out eight. Madi McCrady (16-7) allowed six hits and struck out six for the Bobcats.
Brenna Brownfield and Kennadie Goth both tallied 2-for-3 days.
Game 2: Ohio 10, Kent State 2 (5 innings)
The Bobcats went down quietly in the first, but then their bats roared for crooked number second, third and fourth innings. Alex Day had a two homer and four RBI game to lead Ohio.
Brenna Brownfield was 1-for-1 with another double and a walk. Pinch hitter Alexis Taube hit a two-run jack to center in the fifth inning to break up the shutout.
