Men’s Track and Field Moves into Lead Friday at MAC Outdoor Championships

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Kent State men's track and field team posted eight or more points in all five events finals on Friday to take the lead at the 2019 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The Golden Flashes' 61 points are five more than any other team heading into the final day of competition on Saturday.
All-American TJ Lawson completed his third consecutive decathlon title in dominant fashion, totaling 7,738 points during the two-day event. Lawson set an outdoor personal-best by clearing 15'-5" to win the pole vault and also won the discus with a throw of 146'-8". He scored 822 points by clocking a 15.23 in the 110-meter hurdles to start the day and finished with a 967 margin of victory.
Devin Snowden and Jacob Mally also scored in the decathlon. Snowden placed fifth with 6,345 points and Mally had a big second day of competition to take seventh with 6,148.
Ryan Demaline and Trevor Detillion combined for 10 points in the shot put. Demaline posted a personal-best mark of 57'-9.75" to finish third and Detillion had a top throw of 54'-1.25" for fifth.
The Flashes also totaled 10 points in the long jump. Samory Fraga finished third in with a mark of 24'-4.25". TJ Lawson (23'-6") and Christian Champen (23'-5.25") placed sixth and eighth, respectively.
Clark Bookman and Jake Wickey earned All-MAC honors with runner-up finishes. Bookman completed the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:02.91, while Wickey had a top mark of 198'-9" in the hammer throw.
Four Flashes advanced to Saturday's running event finals. Brandon Harris (10.73) and Brandon Wilson (10.87) both qualified in the 100-meter dash. Zavien Parker clocked a personal-best 48.70 in the 400-meter dash and Justin Prack ran a 1:55.60 in the 800-meter run.
