Turner Earns Back-to-Back MAC Player of the Week Honor

CLEVELAND, Ohio –Kent State sophomore Michael Turner was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week for the second straight week, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Turner was an offensive juggernaut for the Golden Flashes, batting at a .462 clip with a .769 slugging percentage. He tallied eight RBIs and six hits through a three-game series at Bowling Green.
Down 8-6 in the seventh inning of the series opener at Stellar Field, Turner came up in a clutch situation with bases loaded. He belted his second grand slam of the season to propel Kent State to its 13th conference win. He collected a career-high six RBIs on the night and went on to drive in runs in each of the remaining two games.
In MAC games this season, Turner currently ranks third in the conference in RBIs (27), sixth in batting average (.395) and is tied for fifth in sacrifice flies (3).
Turner earned his first career MAC Player of the Week honor a week ago following a monster week at the plate. The Warren, Ohio native consistently came through in clutch situations, accounting for nearly half of Kent State's total runs with nine RBIs and five runs scored through four games. On the week, he posted a .500 average and .643 slugging percentage, collecting seven hits with two doubles and three sacrifice flies.
Kent State has earned Mid-American Conference Player of the Week or Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors four weeks in a row, totaling six Player of the Week and two Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards this season.
The Flashes will finish the 2019 home schedule Tuesday, May 14, hosting Wright State at Schoonover Stadium at 6 p.m.
