KENT, Ohio- The Kent State men's basketball program has announced the signing of Anyeuri Castillo to its 2019 recruiting class.
"I'm really excited to add a player of AC's caliber at Kent State," said head coach Rob Senderoff. "He's a winner as you can see from his success at Central Georgia Tech and is a versatile forward that fits what we were looking for this spring. We are excited for what he will add to our team."
A 6-foot-7 forward, Castillo comes to Kent State from Central Georgia Technical College, where he spent two seasons in a Titans uniform. In 62 career collegiate games played, Castillo has scored 806 points, shooting 56.1 percent from the field.
"AC has really worked hard during his time here at CGTC," said Central Georgia Tech head coach Reco Dawson. " I am excited for him and he has been blessed with this opportunity. Kent State is getting a good one."
As a freshman at Central Georgia Technical College in 2017-18, Castillo averaged 15.3 points on 59 percent shooting and 6.8 rebounds, while leading the team with 72 blocks. He led the Titans to the 2017-18 National Junior College Athletic Association DI District XIII championship and a berth in the NJCAA National Tournament. For his efforts, he was named Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Second Team All-Region and also earned All-Freshman Team honors.
This season, Castillo was selected as the GCAA Defensive Player of the Year and earned GCAA All-Region First Team and GCAA All-Region Defensive Team honors, while helping the Titans become the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) champs for the second-straight season. He averaged 14.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game.
Castillo attended Meadowcreek High School in his native Georgia, where he was a dual-sport athlete excelling in baseball as well as on the hardwood.
