
Kent State to Continue Early Season Home Stand Against UNC Wilmington

KENT – Following their most recent performance against Cornell, (Nov. 7) Kent State Men's Basketball will continue their early non-conference schedule on Monday, Nov. 10 when they host the University of North Carolina Wilmington Seahawks. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. inside the M.A.C. Center. The game if the second of a double-header that will immediately follow Kent State Women's Basketball's game against Walsh University. The Golden Flashes (1-1) will try to follow up last Friday's historic showing against a UNCW squad playing in its second game of the season (1-0).
Last Time Out
The Blue and Gold look to build on their recent win over Cornell where they took their first victory of the season 110 to 102. Kent State exploded out of the gate going a 12-3 in the opening five minutes. Cornell started to close the gap before the Golden Flashes went back to work with a driving layup from Delrecco Gillespie, and a three from Cian Medley. With just over 11:00 to play in the first half, the Big Red brought the game to six points with a trio of threes. The triples continued to fall for both teams well into the first half with the Golden Flashes and Big Red combining for 113 points in the first 20 minutes. KSU took the lead into the half 58-55. The Blue and Gold opened the second half with 13-2 run. Despite leading by as much as 14 with just over 11:00 minutes to play, Cornell stayed red hot from beyond the arch. The Golden Flashes kept their foot on the gas as Medley, Gillespie, and Omer Hamama made key plays on both sides of the floor to pull away in the closing minute. Kent State earned the 110 to 102 win.
The Golden Flashes vs. UNCW
This will be just the second meeting all-time between the Golden Flashes and the Seahawks. Kent State hosted UNC Wilmington in the M.A.C. Center on Nov. 23, 2008, where the Blue and Gold took an 83-64 win. It was one of three games KSU played as part of the South Padre Island Invitational under the direction of Head Coach Geno Ford at the time.
Scouting the Seahawks
The UNCW Seahawks program is in season six under the direction of Head Coach Takayo Siddle. He enters Monday's game with an overall record of 107-47. UNCW went 72-28 overall in Siddle's three seasons as an Assistant Coach and advanced to the postseason all of those years, including the CIT in 2015 and the pair of NCAA Tournament appearances (2016, 2017). Last season UNCW went 28-7 overall and 14-4 in the CAA. The Seahawks bested Delaware 76-72 for the CAA Tournament Championship to reach their first NCAA Tournament appearance in eight years. UNCW fell to Texas Tech in the first round.

Monday night's game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Cam Manna and Jana Ashley on the call. This season's radio broadcast can be heard on Fox Sports 1350 with Dane Richardson on the call.
Next Up for Kent State
Following Monday's matchup with UNCW, the Golden Flashes will start preparation for their pair of Horizon League matchups in the Greenbrier Tip-Off. Kent State will play local rival Cleveland State on Nov. 15 at 1:00 p.m., and Wright State on Nov. 16 at 12:00 p.m.
