
Yeargin Advances in 400m in Record-Setting Time

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Nicole Yeargin broke her own school record and advanced to the quarterfinals of the 400-meter dash as the Kent State women's track and field team opened competition at the 2019 NCAA East Preliminary Championships.
Yeargin sprinted her way to the next round by placing second in her heat with a time of 52.81, which tops her previous record by 0.70 seconds. She will compete in the third heat of the event quarterfinals on Friday, which is slated to start at 5:30 p.m. The top-3 runners from each heat plus the next best three times among remaining competitors will advances to the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas.
Talia Falco and Alyssa Matheny represented the Golden Flashes in the high jump. Falco tied for 40th with a top clearance of 5'-5", while Matheny was unable to record an official height.
In the javelin throw, Grace Tennant finished 40th with a top throw of 138'-8".
On Friday, Gabby Bailey will join Tennant in the discus throw at 12 p.m. In addition to the 400m quarterfinals, Yeargin will compete in the 200m first round at 7:30 p.m.
