
Yeargin’s Speed Highlights Day 2 at NCAA East Prelims

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Nicole Yeargin continued her an outstanding week at the 2019 NCAA East Preliminary Championships on Friday, breaking her own school record in the 400-meter dash and advancing to the quarterfinals in the 200-meter dash.
Less than 24 hours after a record-setting first round performance in the 400m, Yeargin clocked a 52.76 to place 15th during Friday's quarterfinals. The junior finished fourth in the third heat and missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas by 0.02 seconds. This is the third time that she has broken the Kent State record this season.
Yeargin returned to the track about two hours later and earned the final spot in the 200m quarterfinals with a time of 23.57. She will compete in the second heat of the event quarterfinals on Saturday, which is slated to start at 7:35 p.m. The top-3 runners from each heat plus the next best three times among remaining competitors will punch their ticket to nationals.
Freshman Gabby Bailey performed well in her NCAA East Prelims debut and placed 14th with a mark of 171'-1" in the discus throw. Sophomore Grace Tennant finished 30th with a top throw of 159'-4".
Bailey and Tennant will be back in action on Saturday in the shot put at 5:15 p.m.
