KENT, Ohio – Kent State student-athletes Rachel Banks and TJ Lawson have been named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country First Team for District 5, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced Tuesday (May 28) afternoon.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District® Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. A nursing major with a 3.96 cumulative grade point average, Banks earned All-MAC Second Team honors with runner-up finishes in the 800-meter run at the Mid-American Conference Championships during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Competing in her first indoor season as a Golden Flash, she ran the 10th-fastest 800m (2:10.16) in program history and was a member of the 4x400 relay team that clocked the ninth-best time in the school record book. A sport administration and business management double-major with a 3.78 cumulative grade point average, Lawson won individual MAC titles in the heptathlon and decathlon. He will compete in the decathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the third straight year with a qualifying score of 7,876 that is the second-highest in conference history. Lawson was named Most Outstanding Field Performer after posting 15 points towards the Flashes' score at the MAC Outdoor Championships.
Both student-athletes will advance to the national ballot. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® teams will be announced on June 27.
