
Flashes Earn Highest Spring GPA in Department History

KENT, Ohio-  Kent State raised the bar yet again in the classroom. The athletic department recently boasted its highest spring term grade point average (3.209) in history with the help of 199 student-athletes (50%) recording a 3.4 or better.
The Golden Flashes celebrated academic success across the board as 15-of-17 programs had spring GPAs above a 3.0. The Flashes are riding a streak of 15 straight terms with a cumulative 3.0 or better, that began in the fall of 2012.
Leading the way this spring was the gymnastics team, with a 3.626. Gymnasts accounted for seven of the 43 student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 spring term.
Three teams were above a 3.6, including women's cross country, who netted a 3.621.Â
Volleyball recorded a 3.616 this spring, marking the fifth time in history the program has surpassed a 3.6.
Field hockey rallied for its highest GPA (3.596) in program history. It was one of eight teams that met the 3.4 milestone in the spring, while carrying a 3.4 or better cumulative GPA.
Women's golf and softball both remained at the top of their game with their fourth consecutive terms of a 3.5 or higher.
Soccer has now notched 11 consecutive semesters of a 3.4 or higher.
Women's basketball had more than half of its roster (8 players) at a 3.4 or higher, including a pair on the President's List (4.0).
Men's cross country also found itself in a familiar spot, going over a 3.4 in the spring.
In its first season of competition, lacrosse put 65 percent of its players on the Dean's or President's List.
Men's golf and women's track & field (indoor & outdoor) were among the 12 Kent State programs to surpass a 3.3 this spring. It was the highest GPA in seven years for men's golf, while seven women's track & field students registered 4.0s.
Men's track & field garnered its third highest GPA in program history.
Wrestling raked in its highest spring semester GPA in program history.
Football also put together a strong spring, its third highest in team history. Twenty-two percent of football players reached the 3.4 mark, while 46 percent earned a 3.0 or better.
Baseball has now strung together 10 consecutive terms of a 3.0 or better.
Three men's basketball students eclipsed 3.0s, including one 4.0. Â They were among the two-thirds of Kent State student-athletes (263) to post a term GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Earlier this month, Kent State honored 66 Golden Flashes with their diplomas at the spring commencement.
