Flashes Soccer Travels to Colorado for Two Matches

Kent State (0-0-1) heads West for its first road swing of the 2019 campaign as it travels to Colorado for a pair of matches. The Flashes will take on Colorado (2-0-0) on Thursday, August 29th at 6:30 p.m. EST / 4:30 p.m. MST and Denver (1-0-1) on Saturday, August 31st at 9:00 p.m. EST / 7 p.m. MST. Last Time Out
Kent State opened the regular season with a scoreless tie after sending Friday's match into two overtime periods. The Flashes had a handful of opportunities, but were unable to find the net. Juniors Vital Kats and Maddie Holmes led the way for the Flashes combing to place 13 shots on goal. Â Cameron Shedenhelm had one of the best looks of the night and worked passed defenders on the right side of the goal in the 62nd minute, but her attempt was just wide. Kent State continued to apply pressure, and just seven minutes later Kats ricocheted her shot off the crossbar.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Faith O'Neill recorded two saves in the draw and earned a shutout. Both sides recorded five corner kicks a piece, and the Flashes outshot the Vikings 21-11.
Flashes Picked Third in MAC Preseason Poll
The Golden Flashes were tabbed to finish third in the Mid-American Conference preseason coaches' poll and received three votes to win the league's postseason tournament. Kent State had the second most tournament championship votes behind last season's regular season and tournament champion, Bowling Green. Kent State finished the 2018 campaign with its eighth consecutive 10-win season and is the only MAC team to accomplish that mark.
Scouting Colorado
The Buffaloes are undefeated so far in the young season, as they won their first two contests against Boston U and Drake. In both matches, Colorado recorded clean sheets, defeating each opponent, 2-0. The Buffaloes have been balanced offensively, with four different players registering a goal. Colorado was selected to finish to finish fifth in the Pac-12 for the second consecutive season, and is led by eighth-year head coach Danny Sanchez.
Scouting Denver
The Pioneers played to a scoreless draw in their season opener against Boston U. In their next match, Denver defeated Drake, 2-0. Denver has been stout defensively and have not surrendered a goal this season. Junior Meg Halvorson leads the way for the Pioneers with one goal and one assist. Sophomore Samantha Feller also has scored one goal.
Series History
Kent State leads the all-time series against Colorado 1-0-0, the Flashes have not faced the Buffaloes since the 2014 season where they won at a neutral site in Las Vegas, 1-0. In their last matchup, Karli Paracca scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute to send the Flashes to victory. Kent State and Denver will be meeting for first time on the pitch.
Next Up
Kent State returns home for a two-match home stand to close out home non-conference action. The Golden Flashes will battle Xavier on Friday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. and host Syracuse for Senior Day on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 1 p.m.
