CLEVELAND, Ohio – Kent State redshirt sophomore Karly Hellstrom has been named Mid-American Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday (Sept. 10). She was recognized with the award along with Ohio's Heather McGuire.
Hellstrom netted the game-winning goal against Syracuse in the Golden Flashes 1-0 win against their Atlantic Coast Conference counterpart. KSU swept the home-and-home series with the Orange after winning 2-1 on the road in overtime last year, and have beaten an ACC opponent in each of the last four seasons. Hellstrom totaled five shots and placed two on target for the week. The Sudbury, Ontario native collected her second goal of the year on a set piece from a throw in and beat the Syracuse defense. Both of her goals this season have come against Power 5 competition, as she scored her first at Colorado to give the Flashes an early lead.
Kent State continues non-conference play when it travels to Butler on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m.
