
Flashes Drop Season Opener to NIU

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State Gymnastics team began its season at home in the M.A.C. Center against Northern Illinois. Northern Illinois took home the victory with an overall team score of 193.175. The Flashes scored a 193.125 as a team.
Senior Jade Brown and freshman Karlie Franz tied for the floor title, scoring a 9.825. Franz also added 9.700 on both vault and beam in her first collegiate meet.
Junior Nasha Manitkul-Davis paced the Golden Flashes on vault with a score of 9.800 which tied for first overall. Junior Abby Fletcher and freshman Olivia Amodei tied for second on vault with a score of 9.775. The Flashes scored a 48.825 on vault, their highest total on the event since the 2018 MAC Championships.
Brown tied for second on bars with a score of 9.775. Sophomore Madison Trott scored a 9.750 and freshman Rachel DeCavitch recorded a 9.675.
DeCavitch finished third in all-around with a 38.650. She posted a 9.775 on beam, a 9.675 on vault and a 9.525 on floor in her first meet as a Golden Flash.
NIU's Mia Lord took home the beam title with a score of 9.850, and Morgan Hooper won the bars title with a 9.825. Brookelyn Sears took home the all-around title with a score of 38.775.
The Golden Flashes will head to the nation's capital on Sunday, January 19 to take on George Washington, Pennsylvania and Cornell in the George Washington Quad.
