KENT, Ohio — Kent State freshman pole vaulter Leah Pasqualetti has been selected as the 2020 National High School Girls MVP by Track and Field News.
Despite her final outdoor season at Orchard Park High School falling victim to the COVID-19 pandemic, Pasqualetti continued rigorously training to reach new heights. The hard work was rewarded on June 26th, as she cleared 14'-8.25" to set new national high school and American U-20 outdoor pole vault records at the Vaulter Magazine Stars and Stripes Big Red Barn Meet in Sun City, California. The height is tied for 15th on the all-time outdoor World U-20 performance list.
A few weeks later, Pasqualetti was the youngest of nine world-class vaulters in action at the Acadia Invitational. She tied for fourth-place with a top height of 14'-1.25", finishing only behind three competitors who placed in the top-five at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials.
Pasqualetti set the New York state indoor pole vault record by clearing 14'-3" at a meet in February and then repeated as state champion a month later.
