KENT, OHIO- Kent State senior quarterback Dustin Crum and junior place kicker Matthew Trickett have been named the Mid-American Conference's East Division Co-Offensive Player of the Week and Special Teams Player of the Week for their efforts in the Wagon Wheel victory.
Crum couldn't have started the game any better against the Zips last Tuesday. The senior started a perfect 17-17 in the first half for 300 yards and a pair of scores. He finished the game 22-25 for 348 yards and three touchdowns. He added another 104 yards on the ground and two scores.
His 452 total yards are good for third all-time among Golden Flashes. Crum was also the first Kent State player since Julian Edelman in 2008 to have two touchdowns both passing and rushing.
Trickett was automatic in the Wagon Wheel victory. While he was never called upon for a field goal attempt, he drilled all nine of his extra points. That runs his extra point streak to 73 dating back to the middle of 2018. Trickett also had an inadvertent onside kick, skying a ball that wasn't fielded by the Zips and instead recovered by Dean Clark.
The 69-35 win over the Zips were the most points scored in the Wagon Wheel rivalry which dates back to 1945. The Golden Flashes improved to 3-0 for the first time since 1958 and successfully defended the Wagon Wheel for the first time since 2012. The Golden Flashes next travel to fellow unbeaten Buffalo on Saturday, November 28th. Kickoff is set for noon and will air on CBS Sports Network and The Kent State Radio Network.
