Flashes Fall for First Time at Buffalo

BUFFALO, New York – The Kent State football team (3-1, 3-1 MAC) fell for the first time in 2020 with a 70-41 loss on the road at Buffalo (4-0, 4-0 MAC) on Saturday afternoon.
Buffalo shot out of the gate led by running back Jaret Patterson. He racked up 156 yards on the ground and three touchdowns in the first quarter.
The Flashes answered Buffalo's rushing attack with a gritty first half performance by Dustin Crum. The senior quarterback threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns in the opening half and added a 20-yard rushing score.
Kris Leach snagged his first career touchdown catch, while Isaiah McKoy scored on a 42-yard reception. McKoy has 11 touchdowns of 20 or more yards since the beginning of 2019.
After trailing 35-24 at the break, Kent State marched down the field to open the second half and capped off a 5-play, 75-yard drive with a rushing touchdown by Xavier Williams. Williams has recorded a rushing score in seven of the last eight games.
Buffalo kept the ball on the ground throughout the second half, and Patterson continued to pile up yards. He finished with 409 yards and tied an FBS record with eight rushing touchdowns.
Crum ended the day 22-for-32 for 343 yards and three touchdowns, adding another 76 yards and a score on the ground. McKoy finished the game with five receptions for 137 yards, while sophomore Ja'Shaun Poke caught seven passes for 124 yards.
Zayin West finished with a career-high 12 tackles, while Dean Clark and Richie Carpenter Jr. each recorded seven total tackles.
