Kent State Track and Field Hosts Doug Raymond National Qualifier

The Kent State track and field program returns to the Kent State Field House this weekend as it hosts the Doug Raymond National Qualifier on Friday and Saturday.
Competition begins Friday at 4 p.m. with the women's long jump and women's pole vault. The women's weight throw is slated for 4:30 p.m. The women's 60-meter hurdles prelims get action on the track started at 5 p.m. The night's running events will conclude with the men's distance medley relay starting at 7:40 p.m.
Action continues on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the remaining field events. The women's 60-meter dash prelims begin the running events at 12 p.m. The men's 4x400-meter relay starts at 4:25 p.m. and concludes the competition.
PREVIEWING THE FLASHES
Kent State will have three athletes in competition who own the top mark in the Mid-American Conference this season.
Gabby Bailey and Alyssa Matheny are the two women who rank on top. Bailey unleashed a personal-best throw of 52'-11" at the Kent State-Akron Dual to rank 25th nationally in the shot put, while Matheny cleared 5'-8" this past weekend to sit 65th nationally.
Christian Champen posted a season-best height of 17'-1.5" at the Akron Invitational on Saturday for a No. 33 national ranking. Champen has won all four pole vault competitions he has entered to start his senior season.
The men's side has three others scheduled to compete who boast a top-75 national ranking. Jake Wickey ranks 24th in the weight throw (68'-0.25"), Del'Mario Hairston ranks 58th in the long jump (24'-4.5"), and Asa Hodrick sits at 64th in the 200-meter dash (21.33).
Grace Tennant also ranks 40th in the nation in the shot put (51'-7.25") for the women.
