Flashes Head to Clarion for Regular Season Finale

KENT, OHIO- The Golden Flashes wrap-up the regular season on Friday night, traveling to take on one of the MAC's newest wrestling members in the Clarion Golden Eagles.
The opening dual is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be streamed by Clarion. If fans have a smart TV or device, they can download the free Clarion Golden Eagles app to stream the dual as well. This will be the first traditional dual between the schools since 2013 as this is the first year that Clarion has wrestled in the Mid-American Conference. The Golden Flashes did wrestle at the Clarion Open last season.
Kent State is coming off a 27-12 setback at Central Michigan last Sunday. Kade Byland led the way, earning a victory by fall in the final match of the day. Tim Rooney and Andrew McNally continued their strong seasons, picking up their 22nd and 28th victories of the season, respectfully. Both Rooney and McNally rank third in the MAC rankings at their respective weights. The Golden Flashes as a team ranked 12th in the latest MAC wrestling rankings.
The Golden Eagles come into Friday night at 8-5 in duals this season and 5-3 in the MAC, they are coming off a 6th place finish at the Edinboro open on February 1st. ย The Eagles currently hold the eight-spot in the MAC wrestling rankings. Their top wrestler is Brock Zacherl who ranks 11th in the NCAA and 2nd in the MAC at 149 pounds, he enters Friday's dual with a 17-3 record. At 197 pounds, Greg Bulsak is 16th in the NCAA and the MAC's #2 wrestler, the 197-pound bout will feature a pair of 20-match winners. At heavyweight, Clarion's Ty Bagoly is the MAC's #4 wrestler and owns a 15-3 record when he takes on Spencer Berthold.
Friday's match closes the regular season. Kent State will rest and gear up for the Mid-American Conference tournament at Northern Illinois on March 7th and 8th.
