Flashes hit season-high 17 3-pointers
KENT, Ohio- The Kent State men's basketball team drained a season-high 17 3-pointers en route to an 87-72 victory over Ohio on Saturday afternoon at the M.A.C. Center in front of a crowd of 5,218.
The Flashes improved to 17-8 overall and 7-5 in league action.
Kent State was led by senior Troy Simons who scored a career-high 27 points on 8-of-12 from the floor and connected on a season-best 7-of-11 from beyond the arc. Three other Flashes scored in double digits as sophomore Anthony Roberts added 21 points, senior Antonio Williams with 16 points and seven assists and senior CJ Williamson with 14 points.
The game started out as a three-point barrage as a the first five baskets came from beyond the arc. The Flashes had an impressive first half, connecting on 10 3-pointers. Simons scored 19 of his 27 points shooting 5-of-7 from long range in the first.
Out of the break, the Bobcats used a 6-0 run that tied the game at 44 90 seconds into the period. From that point on, the Flashes wouldn't let off the gas. KSU's run started with six -straight free throws from junior Danny Pippen. Williams and Simons hit a pair of threes and the Flashes took a 54-46 lead.
Kent State put the game away with 10 unanswered points, capped with a steal and dunk from Williams. The Flashes' lead extended to 20-points, 78-58 when Roberts connected on a three with 3:19 remaining before KSU won by 15. Kent State secured its sixth-straight win over the Bobcats in Kent.
The Flashes return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 18 as Kent State travels to Ypsilanti to take on Eastern Michigan at 7 p.m.
