YPSILANTI, Mich.- The Kent State men's basketball team struggled offensively on Tuesday night as KSU shot just 29.1 percent, falling at Eastern Michigan, 70-49, at the Convocation Center.
The loss drops the Flashes to 17-9 overall and 7-6 in league play. Kent State was unable to find its shooting touch all night as the Flashes shot 5-of-31 from three-point range and went 12-of-20 from the charity stripe.
The Eagles took a nine-point lead in the opening half as KSU found itself trailing 21-12 with 9:13 left, but the Flashes did a good job cutting into Eastern Michigan's lead as KSU went into the break trailing 30-28.
Junior Danny Pippen gave the Flashes a lift to start the second half as he knocked down two free throws that tied the game at 30, but that was as close as the Flashes would get to the Eagles. A 14-3 run by the Eagles put the game out of reach for the Flashes as EMU took a 53-39 lead with under six left to play. Eastern Michigan would go on to secure the 70-49 victory.
Pippen led the Flashes recording his sixth double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Mitch Peterson added eight points, while seniors Troy Simons and Antonio Williams each scored five points.
Kent State returns home on Friday night when the Flashes host Buffalo at 7 p.m. on ESPN2. The Flashes defeated the Bulls in Buffalo earlier this year.
