Flashes Drop a Heart-breaker in Double-OT

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State men's basketball team fought tooth-and-nail with the Buffalo Bulls' ball club, but ultimately fell in the second overtime, 104-98, Friday night at the M.A.C. Center. Tonight's tilt saw 13 ties and 17 lead changes as Kent State has the lead late in both regulation and first overtime period, but the Bulls made plays and pulled away in the double OT.
Kent State drops to 17-10 overall and 7-7 in league play.
Senior Antonio Williams led the Flashes with a career-high 34 points, five rebounds and four assists. Sophomore Anthony Roberts finished with a career-high 23 points and four assists.
Senior Troy Simons added 15 points and five rebounds, CJ Williamson finished with 12 points, and Philip Whittington rounded out the double-figure scoring with 10 points.
In the final moments of regulation, UB held an 82-79 lead when the Bulls' Williams converted a slam dunk with 48.2 second remaining. With 23 seconds remaining, Roberts buried a three that sent the game into overtime.
In the first extra period, there were four ties with UB holding a two-point lead, 93-91. However, a driving layup by Simons with 33.2 seconds remaining sent the game into the second overtime.
KSU held a two-point lead in the second overtime on a floating layup in the lane from Williams, but the Bulls knocked down a three from the top of the key that gave UB the lead for good.
The Flashes shot 50.7 percent (38-of-75) from the field and had 48 points in the paint to 38 for UB.
Kent State returns to action on Tuesday as the Flashes host Miami at the M.A.C. Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
