Flashes Shoot Lights Out in Win Over Miami

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State men's basketball team shot a blistering 57.4 percent from the field in the 74-61 victory over Miami on Tuesday night at the M.A.C. Center. Four Golden Flashes scored in double-figures.
With the victory, Kent State ended a two-game losing streak and stand 18-10 overall and 8-7 in MAC play.
Senior Antonio Williams led the charge with 17 points and five rebounds. Junior Danny Pippen came off the bench to score 16 points and pulled down four rebounds, while sophomore Anthony Roberts had 13 points with five assists. Senior Philip Whittington rounded out the double-figure scoring with 12 points.
KSU opened the contest scoring the game's first 11 points, highlighted by a three-pointer from Tervell Beck in the right corner. Miami got back into the game using a pair of threes before going on an 18-6 run that gave the RedHawks their first lead of the game , 18-17.
Pippen, who returned to the lineup after missing the Buffalo game with a back injury, hit a three from the right arc at the 6:25 mark to give the Flashes the lead for good.
KSU started the second half strong opening a 14-point lead, its largest of the game, 53-39, on a layup by Williams. The closest the RedHawks would get for the remainder of the game was by eight points, 62-54. The Golden Flashes held Miami at bay and avenged their first game loss to Miami.
The Golden Flashes dominated in the paint scoring 42 points to the RedHawks' 12. KSU won the battle of the boards out-rebounding Miami, 29-20.
Kent State returns to action as they make the trip down to Athens on Friday to take on Ohio. Friday's game will air on the CBS Sports Network and tip off at 6:30 p.m.
