
Stellar Pitching Leads Flashes on Day 2 of Maverick Classic

ARLINGTON, Texas – Kent State held its opponents to five hits on Saturday while splitting a pair of games at the Maverick Classic. The Golden Flashes (6-2) dropped a 3-1 contest to Stephen F. Austin in the morning and then returned to Allan Saxe Field to beat Texas Southern, 1-0.
Game 1: Stephen F. Austin 3, Kent State 1
A three-run homer off the bat of Mackenzie Bennett during the fourth inning was all the Ladyjacks needed to earn the victory.
The Golden Flashes struggled to put runners on base and finally got on the board in the sixth. Kennadie Goth drew a walk and was able to score following two-out hits by Brenna Brownfield and Maria Cegledy.
Andrea Scali (2-2) had 10 strikeouts in the game.
Game 2: Kent State 1, Texas Southern 0
Madi Huck (3-0) and Andrea Scali combined for a two-hit shutout against the Tigers. Huck had seven strikeouts in six innings and Scali struck out the side in the seventh for the save.
Kennadie Goth reached on an error to lead off the top of the fourth before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brenna Brownfield. Morgan Bowers then brought Goth around to score with a single.
Vanessa Vodan collected the Flashes' only other hit in the game.
