Flashes Travel to Ball State for MAC Matchup

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State gymnastics team travels to Muncie, Ind. to take on Ball State on Sunday, February 23 in another Mid-American Conference matchup. Last week the Golden Flashes won their ninth-consecutive matchup and have not lost in over a month. They improved to 9-1 overall and 1-1 in the MAC.
The Golden Flashes averages on vault, floor and the all-around have placed them third in the MAC. This season Kent State has posted the highest score in the MAC on floor with a score of 39.350. The Flashes are ranked fourth on both bars and beam. Sophomore Kendra Lindway is ranked third in the MAC on vault after her performance last week. Freshman Rachel DeCavitch is ranked sixth on bars with senior Sammi Nero coming in seventh. Freshman Olivia Amodei is ranked fifth in the all-around, while DeCavitch is ranked sixth. Senior Jade Brown is ranked seventh on bars with an average score of 9.813.
Last Time Out
DeCavitch led the Flashes on bars with a third-place finish (9.850). Brown finished in fourth place with a 9.825, while fellow senior Nero scored a 9.775 in her first action of the season.
Lindway recorded a career-high 9.825 on vault and her first career individual title. Freshman Karlie Franz and junior Nasha Manitkul-Davis tied for third place with a 9.825.
DeCavitch was back at it on beam, tying her career-high with a 9.875 and winning the beam title.
Brown, Franz and junior Abby Fletcher each scored a 9.825 on floor and tied for third place.
Scouting Ball State
On Feb. 14, Ball State faced off against Georgia and Eastern Michigan. The Cardinals finished the tri-meet in second place behind Georgia. Two days later, the Cardinals took down Eastern Michigan, scoring a school record of 195.750
Sophomore Stefanie Schweikert and senior Bri Slonim led the vault line up both scoring 9.850 to finish first. Junior Arden Hudson tied for third place with a 9.800.
Freshmen Megan Teter and Grace Evans tied for second place on bars scoring 9.825, while sophomore Lauren Volpe tied for first place on beam with a 9.825.
Junior Claudia Goyco led the Cardinals by matching her career high 9.900 and taking home the beam title. Sophomore Marissa Nychyk finished with a 9.875 finishing second.
Up Next
Kent State will host a quad meet on Friday, Feb. 28 for its annual Pink Meet inside the M.A.C. Center. The Flashes will face off against Bowling Green, Brockport and Ursinus. Pink t-shirts will be available for purchase closer to the event and beanies will be available at the door.
