MUNCIE, Ind. – Kent State suffered its first setback since the opening meet of the season as the team dropped it's second Mid-American Conference matchup of the season to Ball State, 194.575-194.450.
The Flashes dominated the first two rotations with freshman Rachel DeCavitch picking up the individual bars title with a career-high 9.875 and junior Nasha Manitkul-Davis securing the individual vault title (9.775). DeCavitch and freshman Karlie Franz tied for second place on vault (9.750).
On the floor exercise, senior Jade Brown and junior Abby Fletcher tied for second (9.850) and rocketed the Flashes to a commanding 146.625-145.500 lead heading into the final rotation. Franz and senior Sarah McCarty each recorded a 9.800 to tie for fifth.
The Cardinals stormed back and thanks to Claudia Goyco's near-flawless 9.900 performance, Ball State squeaked out the last-second victory to improve to 3-1 in the MAC.
The Golden Flashes return home to host the annual Pink Meet against Bowling Green, Ursinus and Brockport on Friday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. inside the M.A.C. Center. Fans can purchase pink t-shirts to help support Breast Cancer Awareness and a limited number of pink beanies will be given to fans.
