KENT, Ohio – The Kent State gymnastics team (12-2, 2-2 MAC) dominated its annual pink meet, posting its second-highest score of the season (195.450) in front of a fantastic crowd inside the M.A.C. Center.
Two Golden Flashes earned individual event titles as freshman Rachel DeCavitch tied a career-high 9.875 on bars and junior Abby Fletcher nailed a near-perfect floor routine (9.900) to win the event title.
"I thought we had a solid meet, but I still would like our beam scores to improve," said Head Coach Brice Biggin. "The good thing is, we bounce back. We had some mistakes, but the people after would step up and hit their routines. After the beam routine, I kind of got on to them a bit and you saw what they did on floor. It was great for them to finish that way and put a nice exclamation point at the end of the meet."
Freshman Karlie Franz led the Flashes on vault, tying a career high with a score of 9.800 and finishing in third place. Four other Golden Flashes scored above a 9.700 including fellow freshmen Olivia Amodei and DeCavitch who each scored a 9.775.
Senior Jade Brown recorded a 9.800 on bars event to finish in second place. Sammi Nero finished in seventh place with a 9.675.
Sophomore Samantha Henry recorded a career-high 9.875 on beam, finishing in second place on the event. Sophomore Riley Danielson tied a career-high 9.850 and placed third. Junior Abby Fletcher finished in fourth place (9.825) and Amodei finished fifth (9.800).
Brown finished in second place (9.875). The Golden Flashes swept floor exercise with junior Sarah McCarty and DeCavitch tied for third place (9.850). Kent State posted its second-highest floor score of the season (49.275).
DeCavitch took home the all-around title with a 38.800.
