KENT, OHIO- Kent State right hander Ryan Lane has been named the Mid-American Conference's Co-Pitcher of the Week for his efforts against Florida Gulf Coast.
Lane was absolutely dominant against the Eagles on Sunday in Fort Myers, Florida. The New London, Ohio native threw eight-and-a-third shutout innings, scattering three hits and striking out 10 against zero walks in a 4-0 victory. After a first inning double, Lane retired the next 16 Eagles before surrendering a hit in the sixth. The innings and strike outs are a career high for Lane, who improved to 2-0 on the season with a 2.03 earned run average.
The shutout was the first for the Golden Flashes since the 2019 regular-season finale against Eastern Michigan. His 10 strikeouts are the most by a Kent State pitcher since John Matthews struck out 10 in six innings of relief against Toledo also in 2019.
Sunday's victory improved the Golden Flashes to 4-3 on the season and clinched the series versus Florida Gulf Coast. Kent State is back in action this weekend, heading back south to Rock Hill, South Carolina to take on Winthrop. First pitch on Friday is slated for 4 p.m.
