Football Suspends Spring Practices Until April 12th
KENT, OHIO- In accordance with Kent State University's decisions to slow the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), Kent State football has elected to cancel its spring showcase scheduled for Saturday, April 11th.
The showcase would have been the traditional end to the Golden Flashes' 15 spring practices. Those practices have been suspended through April 12 when normal campus activities are scheduled to resume.
"The welfare of our student-athletes is always at the forefront of what we do as a program," head coach Sean Lewis said. "We are following the guidance of university administration in making these tough decisions."
"I applaud Coach Lewis," Kent State athletic director Joel Nielsen added. "It was obviously a difficult call, but ultimately it has the best intentions for the health and safety of our student athletes."
Kent State football also announced that all recruiting activities scheduled during the spring football period have also been suspended.
"When traditional campus activities resume, we'll see where resuming spring football practice falls in that discussion, "Lewis added.
