
Flashes Face Rival Zips in Regular Season Finale

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State men's basketball team will make the 12-mile trip down the road to take on rival Akron for its final game of the regular season on Friday night. Tip-off from the James A. Rhodes Arena is set for 6:30 p.m. and will air on CBS Sports Network. The winner of the contest will earn a half-point for its school in the Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel Challenge standings.
Kent State remains the No. 6 seed for the 2020 MAC Men's Basketball Tournament with one game remaining and will host a First Round for the MAC Tournament on Monday, March 9 at 7 p.m. Final seeding and opponent will be determined at the conclusion of all MAC game being played Friday night.

Pippen missed both games against the rival Zips last season due to injury.
Last season the two teams split as the Flashes fell at Akron in the first installment of the Wagon Wheel Challenge, 72-53. Kent State closed the regular season with a win over Akron at home, 68-65.
Kent State and Akron have met in the MAC Tournament eight times. Kent State is 3-5 in the MAC Tournament against the Zips. In addition, Kent State and Akron have played for the MAC Tournament championship three times. Kent State leads 2-1 in MAC title games. Flashes won the tournament in 2007-08 (74-55), Akron took the title in 2010-11 with a 66-65 overtime win, and the Flashes most recently won the tournament in 2016-17 (70-65).
The last time Kent State swept all three games (2 regular season games, 1 post season) was in 2008. Akron swept all three games back in 2012.

The Kent State men's basketball team improved to 19-11 overall and 9-8 in conference play after a 83-69 win over BG on Tuesday. Junior Danny Pippen led the Flashes with 24 points and 10 rebounds, recording his seventh double-double of the season. Williams had 24 points, scoring 16 in the first half. Junior Tervell Beck came off bench and scored 15 and added five rebounds, while Simons scored 10 points with six boards. Kent State took an 11-point lead, 45-34, at the start of the second half on a driving layup by Simons. The Falcons threatened to get back into the game when Turner scored BG's next seven points, closing KSU's lead to 48-41. The closest BG would get to Kent State was within five, 48-43, with 14:28 remaining.

In addition, Williams grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
