Dobos and Albright Lead Flashes Over Flames

LYNCHBURG, VA- Kevin Dobos drove in three runs, including his second homer and Luke Albright and Jack Zimmerman combined on a four-hitter in a 3-2 victory on Friday night.

Kevin Dobos led the offense on Friday afternoon. After Justin Kirby singled and was sacrificed to both second and third, Dobos drove a pitch over the right-field wall for his second homer of the season for an early 2-0 lead.

In the fifth, the Flashes got some two-out thunder to plate a third run. Ben Carew and Michael Turner singled, allowing Dobos to drive his third run of the game with a single of his own. Kirby, Carew, Turner and Dobos each recorded two hits to highlight the offense on Friday.

Luke Albright made that lead stand up, dealing through the first five innings. The sophomore allowed just four runners through the first four innings, two were wiped out trying to steal second. A third was doubled off first after Grant Vera made a spectacular over-the-shoulder catch in short centerfield and was able to throw behind the runner for the double play.

The only offense for Liberty would come with two outs in the sixth. The Flames strung together a walk, a single and a double to cut the Kent State lead to one. Albright went six and two-thirds, allowing four hits and striking out four. Only one of the two runs were earned as he improved to 2-2 on the season.

Jack Zimmerman came into pitch in the seventh, getting a key strike out to end the inning and strand a runner on second. He worked around a hit batter to work a clean eighth with a pair of strikeouts. His ninth inning mirrored the eighth, hitting a batter with two outs. The lefty eventually closed out the game winning a 13-pitch at-bat to end the game on a strikeout. Zimmerman struck out five over his two-and-a-third innings, allowing just the two hit batsmen to reach base.

Kent State improved to 7-5 with the victory. They are back in action on Saturday afternoon with Collin Romel getting the start. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
