KENT, Ohio – For the third year in a row, Kent State softball senior Maria Cegledy has been named to the Academic All-District® 5 Softball Team, selected by CoSIDA, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District® teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Honorees now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot.
Cegledy recently completed her undergraduate degree in exercise science with a perfect 4.0 GPA and earned CoSIDA Academic All-America® second team honors in 2019. In March, she was announced as one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes student-athletes in their final year of eligibility who have excelled in the areas of community, classroom, character and competition.
During her shortened senior season, Cegledy started all 19 games for the Golden Flashes in center field. She was second on the team in doubles (5) and third in runs scored (9) and RBIs (7).
Cegledy helped Kent State reach postseason competition in two of her three complete seasons, which included a NCAA Tournament appearance in 2017 and National Invitational Softball Championships spot in 2019. A two-time All-MAC second team performer, she recorded 21 multi-hit games and finished her career eighth in the program's record book for most times hit by a pitch (18).
CoSIDA Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on June 11.
