KENT, OHIO- Kent State junior place kicker Matthew Trickett has been named a pre-season All-American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
Trickett enjoyed a stellar sophomore season for the Golden Flashes, earning the Mid-American Conference's Special Teams Player of the Year. The rising junior connected on 29-of-34 field goals on the season, a mark that tied him for the top spot in the FBS. The Cleveland native did not shy away from the big moment, connecting on both of his "walk-off" field goal chances and was 5-for-5 in the bowl win over Utah State. Away from the place kicking, Trickett had 28 touchbacks on kick-offs in 2019 and recovered his own on-sides kick against Buffalo.
Trickett joins Buffalo Bulls' running back Jarret Patterson as the lone MAC members on the pre-season All-America list. The Walter Camp Football Foundation Award is the oldest in college football. It is named for Walter Camp who is considered the "Father of American Football", who selected the first All-America team back in 1889. He is credited with the creation and implementation of several rules that are still in effect today.
The Golden Flashes are coming off a 7-6 season highlighted by their first bowl victory in school history. The 2020 season in scheduled to open on Saturday, September 5th at Penn State, a kick off time has yet to be determined.
