AUSTIN, Texas – Kent State softball senior Maria Cegledy has been named to the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Softball Third Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
A second team honoree in 2019, Cegledy is one of only six student-athletes to be selected for the second year in a row and one of only 14 with a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA.
Cegledy recently completed her undergraduate degree in exercise science and was announced as one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes student-athletes in their final year of eligibility who have excelled in the areas of community, classroom, character and competition, in March.
During her shortened senior season, Cegledy started all 19 games for the Golden Flashes in center field. She was second on the team in doubles (5) and third in runs scored (9) and RBIs (7). Cegledy helped Kent State reach postseason competition in two of her three complete seasons, which included a NCAA Tournament appearance in 2017 and National Invitational Softball Championships spot in 2019. A two-time All-MAC second team performer, she recorded 21 multi-hit games and finished her career eighth in the program's record book for most times hit by a pitch (18).
Cegledy becomes the sixth two-time Academic All-American in Kent State softball history, joining an elite group that includes Lisa Spotleson (1990, 1991), Samantha Gordon (1990, 1992), Shana Delp O'Dell (1991, 1992), Jennie Allerding (1996, 1997) and Lea Dorto (2002, 2003). Delp O'Dell was named Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year in 1992.
