AUSTIN, Texas – Kent State's TJ Lawson has been named to the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Second Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
A third team honoree in 2019, Lawson is Kent State's first men's track and field student-athlete to earn multiple Academic All-America® honors. Three Golden Flashes have accomplished this on the women's side (Jennifer Buckley, Dior Delophont, Jeanna Fascione).
A sport administration and business management double-major with a 3.792 cumulative grade point average, Lawson also adds his second Academic All-District® honor. He owned the No. 4 heptathlon score in the country going into the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships and was named the Mid-American Conference Most Outstanding Field Performer after scoring a conference meet record 5,723 to claim his second MAC heptathlon crown. A five-time All-American overall, Lawson owns Kent State records for both multis events.
