Flashes Host Gannon and Mercyhurst in 2021 Home Opener

KENT, OHIO- The Golden Flashes kick off their 2021 home slate on Wednesday with duals against Gannon and Mercyhurst inside the Kent State Fieldhouse.
The duals will start with Kent State taking on Gannon at 5 p.m. and the Mercyhurst dual will follow at 6:30 p.m. Both duals will be run on two mats with extra matches following after the traditional dual is completed.
The Flashes are coming off a strong showing at the Cleveland State Round Robin. Jake Ferri, Brendon Fenton, Kody Komara and Colin McCracken all finished 2-0 against the Vikings and will look to roll that momentum into the home opener.
This will be the first meeting between Kent State and Gannon. Gannon will be wrestling for the first time this season and is currently ranked #7 in the Division-II rankings. They have seven wrestlers ranked in the top-20 at their respective weight.
Kent State and Mercyhurst will meet for the sixth time in school history. The Golden Flashes have won all five previous meetings including a 52-0 shutout in 2017. The Lakers will also be wrestling for the first time this season and are currently ranked 17th in the Division-II rankings.

Wednesday is the start of a busy week for the Golden Flashes. After the two midweek duals, the Flashes head to Clarion for a MAC Quad. Kent State will take on host Clarion as well as Southern Illinois Edwardsville and Central Michigan.
