
Flashes Split MAC Duals at Clarion

CLARION, PA- The Golden Flashes split their two matches at Clarion, defeating Southern Illinois at Edwardsville, 25-15 and falling to the host Golden Eagles, 30-10.
The Golden Flashes led wire-to-wire against the SIU-E Cougars in the opening dual of the day. Jake Ferri made it six-straight victories, defeating Austin Macias by a 15-5 major decision. Kent State got six points at 133 after SIU-E was forced to forfeit the match, giving the Golden Flashes a 10-0 lead.
Avry Mutschler and Kody Komara split one-point decisions at 141 and 149, respectfully. Mutschler was on the wrong end of a 4-3 decision while Komara grinded out a 6-5 victory. The Cougars made it 13-11 with victories at 157 and 165, but it would the closest they would get on the day.
Andrew McNally improved to 4-0 on the season, pulling away in the third period to earn a 9-6 victory against Kevin Gschwendtner. Tyler Bates controlled his match from the start and won a convincing 6-1 decision, clinching the dual win for the Flashes. Colin McCracken got his first victory by fall this season, pinning Austin Andres to put an exclamation point on the dual victory.

In the nightcap, the Golden Flashes jumped out again to a quick lead. Jake Ferri again won by major decision, winning 16-7 and getting out to a 4-0 lead. It became 8-0 when Patrick Gould earned a 13-5 victory, gaining some key points late in the third period to push his lead out to eight and earning the extra team point.
Mutschler lost his second tough fought, one-point decision, 3-2 as Clarion got on the board. Kody Komara made it a 2-0 day with a 9-4 victory.
That would be the final victory for the Golden Flashes on Saturday. Andrew McNally was forced out of his match at 174 with an injury just 14 seconds in. Tyler Bates and Colin McCracken lost tough matches at 184 and 197, respectfully. Bates lost a 3-2 decision while McCracken went toe-to-toe with Greg Bulsak, a top-10 wrestler at 197. Jacob Cover got caught on a shot by Tyler Bagoly and the subsequent fall.
The Flashes head back home next weekend to take on the Missouri Tigers. Wrestling from the Kent State Fieldhouse is set for noon.
