KENT, OHIO- A familiar name will be returning to the Kent State baseball team this season with the hiring of former Golden Flashes' outfielder Alex Miklos as a volunteer assistant.
"I am really excited to bring back 'Mik'. He is highly driven to continuing and building off the success our program has had," head baseball coach Jeff Duncan said. "I am excited for everything that he will bring to the table this season. Most important, he is a good person and has compassion for people that will help grow our student0-athletes on and off the field."
Miklos comes back to Kent State after serving as an assistant coach and camp director for South Dakota State. He helped the Jackrabbits knock off power-5 members Minnesota and Kansas State last season while serving as the hitting and base-running coordinator. Additionally, he served as an assistant coach with the St. Cloud Rox of the Northwest League, a collegiate summer league for two seasons and was named the head coach of the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs of the Expedition League, another collegiate summer league.
"I am grateful to Coach Rob Bishop and South Dakota State Baseball for the opportunity to be a part of their baseball family, but I am very excited to be back with Kent State Baseball," Miklos said. "Kent is a special place to a lot of people and being an alum of the University and the baseball program is something that I take a great deal of pride in. Being able to represent Kent again is an outstanding opportunity that I can't thank Coach Duncan and his staff enough for the opportunity."
Miklos was a three-year captain for the Golden Flashes and is tied for the Kent State program record for career triples with 15. He was named All-Region and First-Team All-MAC in 2014 after hitting .362 and leading the Nation with seven triples. In 2012, he started 37 games in left field for the Flashes, helping the Golden Flashes reach the 2012 College World Series. On the road to Omaha, Miklos got the game-winning hit in the 21st inning in the victory over Kentucky.
"I was fortunate to be a part of some special teams during my Kent State career," Miklos added. "I want this and future generations to have a similar experience. It's my goal to maintain the tradition of excellence that Kent State baseball has."
The Grove City, Pennsylvania native starred in the classroom as well. He was a three-time Academic All-MAC honoree. In 2014, he added Academic All-District accolades. He graduated with a degree in management from Kent State in 2015 and an MBA in finance in 2016.
The Golden Flashes will start the 2021 on February 19th as they travel to Blacksburg to take on Virginia Tech. Kent State will open the home slate a month later on March 19th, welcoming in Northern Illinois.
