
Caspers’ Career Night Leads Flashes to Rivalry Win

KENT, Ohio – Redshirt junior Jacqlyn Caspers had a career-high 11 kills as Kent State made quick work of rival Akron in a 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-15, 25-22) in the first of two Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel Challenge matchups this weekend.
The Golden Flashes (8-11, 3-4 MAC) had a strong performance effort and totaled 11 stuffs while limiting the host Zips to a .107 hitting percentage. Senior Melissa Kolurbasi matched her career-high with five total blocks, including a pair of solo efforts. Senior Danie Tyson also had five total blocks and Caspers added four.
Junior Savannah Matthews led Kent State with 11 kills and 12 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Redshirt senior Alex Haffner recorded 32 assists. Senior Erin Gardner added 11 digs to lead the floor defense.
Kent State will attempt to complete the season sweep on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. at James A. Rhodes Arena.
