Fernsler Selected as MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week

CLEVELAND – Kent State goalkeeper Azure Fernsler has been named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week for competition from Oct. 18-24, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Fernsler's stellar play in the cage allowed the Golden Flashes to earn a huge road MAC win at Appalachian State and battle No. 9 Liberty to the final horn during a pair of road matches over the weekend. In perhaps the best performance during her career as a Golden Flash, she made an incredible 17 saves during Sunday's 2-1 setback at Liberty, holding the national scoring leader under half of its season average. This is just the third time all season the Flames have failed to score at least three times. Fernsler made five saves at App State on Friday and just missed out on her second shutout of the season, as the Mountaineers scored a goal off a penalty corner after the clock read all zeros.
Kent State will vie for at least a share of the MAC regular season title when it visits Ball State on Saturday.
