
Ferri and Komara Lead Flashes at Navy Classic

ANNAPOLIS, MD- Jake Ferri and Kody Komara each finished second to lead the Golden Flashes to a fifth-place finish at the Navy Classic on Saturday afternoon.
Six Kent State wrestlers placed with Brendon Fenton (3rd-133), Enrique Munguia (5th-157), Louis Newell (6th-141) and Mike Ferree (6th-174) joining Ferri and Komara. As mentioned, the Flashes finished fifth among the 12 competing schools and second amongst the five MAC schools participating.
Ferri went 4-1 on the day, winning each of his four by decision before dropping a 12-10 decision to Luke Werner of Lock Haven in the title bout. After receiving an opening round bye, Komara recorded a first-period fall and won by decision and sudden victory to advance to the finals. Komara lost a nail biter, 9-8 to Peyton Omania of Michigan State in the title match.
Brendon Fenton also went 4-1 on the day. After falling in the 133-pound semi-finals, Fenton picked up a pair of tough wins, 8-6 in overtime and 4-3 in the third-place match to close strong. Enrique Munguia had a solid day in the 157-pound tourney, recording a pair of tech falls en route to his fifth-place finish. Louis Newell finished sixth at 141 pounds and enjoyed a day that featured a dominant 16-0 tech fall and 14-1 major decision on the day. Michael Ferree picked up a pair of major decisions in his sixth-place finish at 174 pounds. Tanner Clark recorded a fall on his day at 197 pounds while Jacob Cover recorded two in the 285 pound tourney.
The Flashes will take the holiday week off as they prepare for a trip out to Vegas to compete in the Cliff Keen Invitational. The two-day tournament begins on Friday, December 3rd.
