McCracken Finishes Second to Lead at Cleveland State

CLEVELAND - Colin McCracken went 3-1 on the day and finished second in the 184 pound bracket helping lead the Golden Flashes to a strong day at the CSU Open hosted by Cleveland State. Jacob Cover finished third and Brady Chrisman fourth at heavyweight while Casey Wiles grabbed a sixth-place finish for Kent State on Saturday.
After a strong technical fall win in the opening round, McCracken had one of the most impressive victories on the day on Saturday. McCracken bested DeAndre Nassar, who started the season as the second-ranked wrestler at 184 in the MAC by a 3-1 margin. He then bested Ben Cushman of Central Michigan, the number-six pre-season MAC wrestler before dropping a 16-11 decision in the title bout.
Cover picked up a win by decision and major decision and also finished 3-1 on the day and earned a third-place finish after getting tripped up in the semis. Chrisman picked up a pair of victories by decision, also falling in the semis before a medical forfeit in the third-place match against Cover.
Casey Wiles earned a sixth-place finish and opened his competition with a bang, recording a fall of Koen Kish of Clarion in the third period. It was one of two falls on the day for the Golden Flashes with Aiden Faria recording a fall in just 78 seconds against Aaron McDaniel of Edinboro. After dropping his second match of the day, Wiles picked up a pair of wins in the consolation bracket before dropping the fifth-place match.
Collectivel, the Golden Flashes picked up 20 victories on Saturday. They will hit the road next weekend as they start Mid-American Conference play, taking part in the Husky Duals hosted by NIU. The Flashes will take on Northern Illinois in a MAC match and Harper College, the wrestling gets started at 1 p.m, ET /noon CT
