KENT, OHIO- The Golden Flashes will wrap up the 2021 wrestling regular season on Friday with a three-mat round-robin with the Edinboro Fighting Scots and the Northern Illinois Huskies.
The round-robin will start at noon inside the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. Prior to the meet, the Golden Flashes will recognize their three seniors: Joe Andrassy, Tomas Gutierrez and Raphael Rodriguez.
The round-robin format will be held on three mats inside the MACC, with each wrestler having the potential to get two or three matches during the afternoon. No team score will be kept but individual results will be kept through Track Wrestling.
Jake Ferri will put his eight-match win streak on the line in a trio of matches on Friday. The only wrestler Ferri has seen previously is Lucas Rodriguez of Edinboro, whom he defeated by major decision back in 2018. Senior Tomas Gutierrez will also be scheduled for three matches and also defeated Rodriguez, his victory came in the wrestle-backs at the 2020 MAC Championships.
Brendon Fenton is off to a 5-0 start at 133 this year and will square off against Ty Varnell of Edinboro who is off to an impressive 5-1 start this season. Patrick Gould jumps to 141 this weekend alongside Avry Mutschler.

The two met in the season opener last year with Vath winning in extra time. Anthony Cheloni and Jaivon Jones of Northern Illinois are both 5-2 on the season, Komara has not faced either wrestler. Raphael Rodriguez will join Komara at 149 and will look to knock Vath from the ranks of the unbeatens. ย

It will be Mason Karpinski and James Limongi at 165 pounds, each coming into Friday with a pair of wins this season. Edinboro will bump up PJ Gohn and Luke Sainato up to 165 and Northern Illinois' Izzak Olejnik is 8-1 on the season and ranked in the top-20 by several publications.
The 174-pound matches look to be ones to watch on Friday. Andrew McNally for the Golden Flashes has risen as high as sixth in some publications. McNally will face Jacob Oliver of Edinboro, who is top-15 at 174 pounds. Oliver won the only previous meeting between the two at the season opener last year. Northern Illinois' Mason Kauffman is 20th in the latest InterMat rankings. McNally has never faced Kauffman.
At 184 pounds, Tyler Bates has won three of his last four and will face all three wrestlers on his slate for the first time. Brit Wilson of Northern Illinois is 10th according to InterMat and sits at 8-1 on the season. Joe Andrassy has won five-straight this season and will face the same trio of wrestlers.
Collin McCracken has won six-of-seven and will face Gage Braun of Northern Illinois and Beau Dillon and Cody Mulligan from Edinboro. McCracken has only faced Braun out of that group, losing a tough 5-4 decision. Ryan Boyle has won three of his last four matches and joins McCracken at 197.
Jacob Cover and Tanner Clark will take the mat for the Golden Flashes at heavyweight. They will face Jon Spaulding and Max Millin from Edinboro and Max Ihry and Johnny Shafer from Northern. Cover put the exclamation point on the win over Ohio the last time out and will look to even his record against Spaulding, the only wrestler on the schedule that he's faced. Clark has not faced any of the wrestlers.
All three mats will be streamed via Box Cast, those links are available on the Kent State wrestling schedule page. A complete schedule of Friday matches and their assigned mats are also available on the schedule page.
