
Flashes Host Two MAC Rivals This Weekend

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State gymnastics team (3-4, 1-0 MAC) will host two Mid-American Conference opponents inside the M.A.C. Center over the course of four days as Western Michigan (6-2, 5-1 MAC) travels to Kent on Thursday, Feb. 18, and Central Michigan (2-2, 2-2 MAC) makes the journey on Sunday, Feb. 21, for the annual Pink Meet.
The Flashes will take on the Broncos at 4 p.m., Thursday and the Chippewas at 1 p.m., on Sunday.
Abby Fletcher continues to dominate in her final season. The Oradell, N.J., native has seven individual titles in five meets this season, including the individual title on floor in four meets.
Fletcher currently ranks first in the MAC on floor after she tied a career-high in her last meet against Eastern Michigan. She is ranked 21st in the country on floor with a 9.890 average and leads the Flashes' 23rd-ranked floor lineup.
About the Pink Meet
Kent State gymnastics works with former Golden Flash gymnast, Kristine Slam, with all proceeds donated to the Central Ohio Surgical Association (COSA) and its COSACares fund. Slam founded and runs COSACares, which is a grant that focuses on men and women who are or have been affected by breast cancer. It also helps the families with everyday life situations, such as buying groceries or taking children to school. Shirts are available for purchase here for Sunday's Pink Meet.Â
Last Time Out
The Flashes scored season-highs on multiple events, including floor (49.325) and bars (49.025). On floor, Toshi Richard and Rachel DeCavitch tied for third place with scores of 9.875. All five Golden Flashes scored higher than 9.825.
On bars, Jade Brown led the way with a score of 9.850. Madison Iannuzzo finished in fifth place with a score of 9.825.
DeCavitch also tied for second place on vault with a score of 9.775 on her way to an all-around score of 38.600.
About Western Michigan
The Broncos are ranked 34th in the country and third in the MAC. Western Michigan thrives on the floor, ranking 26th in the country.
They are led on floor by Ronni Binstock, who ranked fifth in the conference. Sarah Moravansky and Payton Murphy rank 11th and 13th in the MAC, respectively. Murphy also shines on beam where she is 25th nationally and second in the conference with a 9.862 average.
The Golden Flashes lost the first meeting between the two teams this season but lead the overall series against the Broncos, 59-23.
About Central Michigan
Sunday will mark the Flashes' first entanglement with the Chippewas since a stunning 195.175-195.075 victory last season. CMU holds the all-time series lead, 49-34.
Central Michigan is currently ranked 38th in the nation and fifth in the MAC. Despite being ranked fifth in the conference on average, the Chippewas have recorded the highest individual score in the MAC this season (196.300).
Hannah Demers leads CMU in the all-around competition, ranking first in the conference. She leads the MAC on both vault (9.825) and bars (9.856). The Chippewas are ranked in the top-25 on both vault and floor.

There are only three more regular season meets for the Golden Flashes after this weekend's action. Kent State will travel to DeKalb, Ill., to take on Northern Illinois on Saturday, Feb. 27, before coming home to host Ball State on Sunday, March 7. The Flashes will end their regular season at Bowling Green on Friday, March 12.
