DeKalb, Ill. – The Kent State gymnastics team fell to Northern Illinois, 194.825-194.775, on the road in DeKalb. The Huskies won it in "walk-off" fashion with a Tara Kofmehl floor routine that pushed NIU to victory.
The Flashes and Huskies were extremely balanced in the first half of the meet. After one rotation, the two teams were tied. There was not much separation after two rotations, but the Huskies used a 48.775 on bars to snatch the lead from Kent State.
Rachel DeCavitch tied for second place on both bars (9.800) and vault (9.775), while Karlie Franz matched her fellow sophomore teammate on vault and tied for second.
DeCavitch continued her brilliant day on floor, tying for first place with a score of 9.875.
The Flashes concluded Sunday's meet on beam, where they fought until the end. Riley Danielson impressed for the second straight meet, this time winning the individual event title on bars with a season-high 9.850. Samantha Henry (9.775) and Abby Fletcher (9.750) also turned in quality beam performances but the team came up just short of their second consecutive win.
