
Flashes Track and Field back in action at Akron Invitational

Kent State track and field returns to action after a week off from competition and will travel to the 17th annual Akron Invitational.
Competition at the two-day meet begins on Friday with the women's pole vault, women's weight throw, women's high jump, and men's heptathlon 60-meter dash all starting at 5:00 p.m. The last field event is scheduled to get underway at 8:00 p.m. Competition will conclude on the track with the men's 200-meter seeded run taking the track at 8:50 p.m.
Action on Saturday is scheduled to get underway at 12:00 p.m. with the women's triple jump and the women's pentathlon hurdles. Field events conclude with men's high jump starting at 2:00 p.m. The women's pentathlon 800-meter dash brings the competition to a close starting at 3:45 p.m.
Kent State will compete against host Akron, Buffalo, Miami, Western Michigan, and Texas State.
PREVIEWING THE FLASHES
Seventeen Golden Flashes who rank in the top-five in the MAC in their respective event are scheduled to be in action.
On the men's side, Jake Wickey ranks second in the weight throw with a toss of 72'-11.75". This toss is also good for 6th in the NCAA. Asa Hodrick ranks second in the 200-meter dash (21.66) followed by Dejon Manning in third (21.80). Justin Dwyer holds a third place ranking in the 400-meter dash (49.11) while Korie Davis II is fifth (49.93). Hodrick makes another appearance in the 60-meter dash ranking fourth (6.83) and Jaheim Jones comes in at fifth (6.89). Gavin Schoeneman and Jack McElligott rank fourth (6'-8.75") and fifth (6'-6.75") in the high jump, respectively. Brian Phillips and Alexander Shields are tied for fourth in the long jump (22'-4.5"), while Kristian Kneffler ranks fifth in the pole vault (15'-6.25").
Jacob Mally and Shields are also set to compete in the men's heptathlon. Shields currently ranks first (8.12) in the 60-meter hurdles while Mally ranks fourth (8.30).
On the women's side, Grace Tennant holds the MAC's top spot in the shot put. Tennant ranks first with a throw of 52'-5.5", while Gabby Bailey ranks third (51'-11"). Tennant and Bailey also hold the 15th and 25th rankings in the nation, respectively. Leah Pasqualetti ranks second in the MAC in the pole vault (13'-0.25"), which is good for 44th in the NCAA. Sarena Choi and Mi'Angel Daniels rank fourth in the MAC in the long jump (18'-7") and 60-meter hurdles (8.94), respectively.
